style=\"font-weight: 400;text-align: justify\">Dr Dimitris Tsaltas is an Associate Professor of the <span style=\"color: #1e8e90\"><u><a style=\"color: #1e8e90\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cut.ac.cy\/faculties\/gem\/abf\/staff\/dimitris.tsaltas\/?languageId=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Department of Agricultural Sciences, Biotechnology and Fo<\/a><a style=\"color: #1e8e90\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cut.ac.cy\/faculties\/gem\/abf\/staff\/dimitris.tsaltas\/?languageId=1\">od Science<\/a><\/u><\/span> at <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cut.ac.cy\/\"><span style=\"color: #1e8e90;text-decoration: underline\">Cyprus University of<\/span><span style=\"color: #1e8e90;text-decoration: underline\"> Technology<\/span><\/a><\/span>. He is a founding member of the Cyprus University of Technology since early days in 2007. He has a BSc in Agricultural Sciences and an MSc in Plant Protection from the <span style=\"color: #1e8e90\"><a style=\"color: #1e8e90\" href=\"https:\/\/www2.aua.gr\/el\"><u>Agricultural University of Athens<\/u><\/a><\/span>. He gained his PhD from <span style=\"color: #1e8e90\"><a style=\"text-decoration: underline;color: #1e8e90\" href=\"http:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/\">Imperial College London<\/a><\/span> in Molecular Plant Pathology and continued his postdoctoral training at the <span style=\"color: #1e8e90\"><a style=\"text-decoration: underline;color: #1e8e90\" href=\"http:\/\/www.uconn.edu\/\">University of Connecticut<\/a><\/span> (USA) in Molecular Microbiology. He also worked at the <span style=\"color: #1e8e90\"><a style=\"color: #1e8e90\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ari.gov.cy\/\"><u>Agricultural Research Institute<\/u><\/a><\/span> (Cyprus) as a Research Advisor within the Crop Protection Department.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">He served as a Delegate and Expert of Cyprus to the Program Committee of 7th Framework Program in Food, Agriculture, Biotechnology and Fisheries and as Committee Member in the Food &amp; Agriculture Domain of <span style=\"color: #1e8e90\"><a style=\"color: #1e8e90\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cost.eu\/\"><u>COST<\/u><\/a><\/span>. He is a Board Member of the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"color: #1e8e90\"><a style=\"color: #1e8e90;text-decoration: underline\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mpunion.eu\/\">Mediterranean Phytopathological Union<\/a><\/span><\/span> (MPU), and the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"color: #1e8e90\"><a style=\"color: #1e8e90;text-decoration: underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fytiatriki.gr\/\">Greek Phytiatry Society<\/a><\/span><\/span>, National Representative at <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"color: #1e8e90\"><a style=\"color: #1e8e90;text-decoration: underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.iseki-food.net\/\">ISEKI Food Association<\/a><\/span><\/span>, Ambassador of the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"color: #1e8e90\"><a style=\"color: #1e8e90;text-decoration: underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.globalharmonization.net\/\">Global Harmonization Initiative &#8211; GHI<\/a><\/span><\/span> as well as Ambassador and International Mentor of the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"color: #1e8e90\"><a style=\"color: #1e8e90;text-decoration: underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.asm.org\/\">American Society for Microbiology<\/a><\/span><\/span> (ASM).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">He leads the Group of Agricultural Microbiology and Biotechnology. The Group is actively engaging in microbial biodiversity and ecology investigations in agroindustrial fermentations. Next Generation Sequencing technologies are used as a tool for these explorations as well as new approach for authenticating food products (microbiome fingerprinting). The group also engages in exploring biosafety problems in the food chain starting from the farm, such as mycotoxins and human pathogens on fresh fruits and vegetables, to the final processed products. Additionally, Dr Tsaltas team works on biosensors development, food innovation and new product development. Through this extensive and deep analytical capacity, the group offers an array of services to the local food, agriculture, pharma and biomedical industry through consultation and analytical methods unique in Cyprus for various microbiology issues (microbial IDing, microbial genotyping, detection of microbes etc).<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<section
